So, I ordered this box and received a different box.
So many of the books were repeat titles and not worth the amount of money that was paid.
I've ordered quite a few of the book boxes because I love them so much! I've received great books that I would never have thought of choosing to read. The tea and popcorn are the icing on the cake! I will definitely order more mystery boxes!
We got two book boxes. And out of all the books, we only ended up with three that we already had. So I got the two my daughter had and gave her the one I had. It was meant to be opened one book a month, of course, but both of us ar impatient and couldn't wait.
I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. I love the idea, but there wasn't a much variety as I expected.
The contents - my box is 75% one genre. 9 out of 12 books are mysteries/thrillers. There's one "romance" that handles dark themes (abuse, domestic violence) and is more of a woman's journey of breaking the cycle than traditional romance. The remaining 2 are fantasies. I don't currently have that many mysteries in my TBR, so I'm fine with this distribution. But I was expecting more variety in the genres.
However, out of this box, there is only one book that I had previously read (always a risk when you have an extensive library and choose a mystery option :) ), so that's plus for the selection process.
Authors - I only had one repeat author, and i haven't read anything by her before, so I'm satisfied with the reading variety. All of the authors are current or previous best sellers too.
Condition of the books - all of the books I received are in excellent condition, especially for previously loved books. None of the paperbacks have split spines or pages falling out and the hardbacks all have a dust jacket in good condition. Some of the books show slight signs of being read before, especially around the corners. But there are no major marks or tears. I'm VERY happy with the quality of the books.
Cozy extras - this was perhaps the most disappointing part for me. I thought there would be a variety of teas and bookmarks, but I only received peppermint tea, which is not my favorite, and one style of bookmark that is a reading list. I thought there might be some repetition with the tea and bookmarks, but I thought they might be thematically linked with the books or maybe the seasons (like fruit teas for the books marked for summer months or something). The bookmarks are not anything I would personally use, and I already have a reading journal. I feel like they are an awkward width for paper bookmarks too (though if they were any narrower, you couldn't really use it as a reading list).
Overall, the quality of everything in the box is excellent, I was just disappointed in the lack of variety in the genres. I could have honestly done without the cozy extras since they seemed like an afterthought with everything being the same and they're stuff I won't personally use. If it's only going to have one kind of tea, I would specify that in the listing
